Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Olamide Suleiman, during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Aguda area of Lagos, leading to the recovery of firearms and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was made along Adetola Road, Aguda, where police officers intercepted the suspect during a stop-and-search exercise. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. Further inspection of his bag uncovered a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that the recovered pistol belonged to one Emir, who was staying at a hotel in Aguda. Acting on the intelligence, police operatives immediately stormed the hotel and searched the room reportedly occupied by the suspect, recovering a double-barrel gun.
However, the principal suspect, identified as Emir, reportedly fled before the arrival of the police. The Command said investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives, reaffirming the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
He also appealed to Lagos residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention, prompt response, and the arrest of criminal elements.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
