CP Tijani, DSS Director commend initiative for boosting professionalism, collaboration and operational efficiency
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has declared that people—not equipment—remain the greatest asset in achieving effective security, stressing that continuous investment in the training and development of security personnel is essential to combating evolving security threats.
Ogunsan made the assertion during the 5th Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme organised by the LSSTF in Lagos, where security operatives from various agencies converged to strengthen their professional skills, enhance collaboration and improve intelligence-driven operations.
He explained that while logistics and modern equipment are important, the competence, discipline and commitment of personnel ultimately determine the success or failure of security operations.
“People remain the greatest asset of any organisation. Equipment and logistics are important, but it is the human being behind every operation that determines success,” Ogunsan stated.
According to him, the monthly training programme was conceived after he assumed office and identified human capacity development as a critical aspect of the LSSTF’s mandate.
He disclosed that the initiative, which began in March, has successfully held editions in March, April, May, June and July, with a commitment to sustaining the programme every month throughout his tenure and beyond.
Ogunsan noted that the training is designed not only to improve operational competence but also to promote networking, mentorship and stronger working relationships among personnel from different security and emergency agencies.
He urged participants to remain disciplined, maximise the learning opportunities and build professional relationships that would strengthen inter-agency cooperation across Lagos State.
The LSSTF boss also appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Military, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Man O’ War Nigeria and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu, the LSSTF and Dr. Ogunsan for prioritising human capacity development, describing the programme as a transformative investment in the future of security in Lagos.
According to the police commissioner, officers who participated in previous editions consistently returned to duty with improved professionalism, better operational competence and a renewed commitment to service.
He added that the initiative has significantly strengthened collaboration among security agencies by creating opportunities for officers to exchange ideas, build trust and develop lasting professional relationships that enhance coordinated security operations.
Also delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lagos State Command, Mr. Babajide Adisa, Deputy Director of Security Vetting, Mr. Waheed Akande, described the programme as a timely initiative that promotes collaboration, knowledge sharing and stronger coordination among security agencies.
He urged participants to maximise the opportunity to learn, network and deepen partnerships that would further enhance the collective ability of security agencies to safeguard Lagos against emerging threats.
The Lagos State Commander of Man O’ War Nigeria, MC Ayodele Ajayi, also applauded the LSSTF for sustaining the training initiative, describing it as a strategic platform for building trust, sharing best practices and strengthening synergy among security organisations.
Similarly, Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos State Command, Apostle Kehinde A. Showemimo, commended the LSSTF for its sustained investment in security, urging participants to embrace continuous learning and stronger partnerships as vital tools for effective community policing and public safety.
The July edition of the Statewide Inter-Agency Training Programme attracted senior representatives from the Police, DSS, Man O’ War Nigeria, PCRC, LSSTF management and other security stakeholders, further reinforcing Lagos State’s commitment to building a well-trained, collaborative and resilient security architecture capable of addressing modern security challenges.
