Lagos Police Nab Four Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms and Ammunition in Ojo Crackdown
The Lagos State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against cultism and violent crime with the arrest of four suspected cultists and hitmen allegedly linked to multiple killings and criminal activities in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo, and surrounding communities.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the operation was carried out in line with the anti-crime agenda of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, who has reiterated the Command’s commitment to making Lagos unsafe for criminal elements.
The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Nwokolo, popularly known as “Oblo” (35), Ayola Israel alias “Essy Pawpaw” (39), Ebuka Nnamdi (31), and Chinedu Okafor (22), were arrested at a hotel in Ajanmgbadi, Ojo Local Government Area, following actionable intelligence gathered by police operatives.
Preliminary investigations reportedly uncovered evidence linking the suspects to violent crimes in the area. Police said a video recovered from one of the suspects’ mobile phones allegedly captured the killing of unidentified persons within Ajanmgbadi and neighbouring communities.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the notorious Aiye Confraternity and admitted involvement in a series of killings and acts of violence that have terrorised residents.
Further searches conducted by investigators led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols, one revolver pistol, and thirteen live cartridges believed to have been used in carrying out criminal operations.
The Police Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities, identify other members of the gang, and apprehend additional accomplices connected to the crimes.
The suspects are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, CP Tijani Fatai reassured Lagos residents of the Command’s unwavering resolve to combat cultism, violent crime, and other threats to public safety. He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies to support crime-fighting efforts across the state.
