LSSTF Boosts FRSC Operations with 100 Raincoats as Ogunsan Declares Road Safety Key to Lagos Security
The Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, has reaffirmed that effective road safety is a critical pillar of security in Lagos, stressing that protecting lives on the highways goes beyond traffic management to strengthening intelligence gathering, emergency response and crime prevention.
Dr. Ogunsan made the assertion during a working visit to the Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ojodu, where he presented 100 raincoats to officers to enhance their welfare and operational efficiency during the rainy season.
He described the FRSC as an indispensable partner in Lagos State’s security architecture, commending the Corps for its unwavering commitment to safeguarding motorists and other road users.
“I appreciate you and your entire team for your dedication to protecting lives on our roads. The Lagos State Security Trust Fund remains committed to supporting agencies that make meaningful contributions to public safety,” he said.
The LSSTF boss disclosed that the Fund’s monthly inter-agency capacity-building programme would continue through December before resuming in January, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to strengthening the professionalism and effectiveness of security personnel across the state.
He also urged the FRSC to deepen intelligence collaboration with other security agencies, noting that officers are strategically positioned to monitor movements across Lagos highways.
“You witness virtually every movement on our roads—the good, the bad and the ugly. This places the FRSC in a unique position to support intelligence gathering. We must work together to promptly identify and report suspicious activities because our collective objective is to keep Lagos safe and deny criminals any operating space,” Ogunsan stated.
He encouraged the command to formally present its operational needs, assuring that the LSSTF would consider interventions capable of improving service delivery.
Responding, the Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and the LSSTF for their sustained support.
According to him, the support received from the Trust Fund—including operational vehicles, specialised training and the latest donation of raincoats—has significantly enhanced the command’s operational capacity.
“The interventions by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund have greatly improved our effectiveness. Even our headquarters has acknowledged the positive impact these investments have made on our operations,” he said.
Hamzat also described the monthly LSSTF inter-agency training as transformational, noting that participating officers returned with improved professionalism and stronger collaboration with sister security agencies.
He further highlighted the FRSC’s growing role in supporting internal security, explaining that the Corps regularly provides intelligence that has assisted the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies in tracking stolen vehicles, apprehending criminal suspects and uncovering fake vehicle registration plates during joint operations.
The visit further underscored the Lagos State Government’s commitment, through the LSSTF, to building a comprehensive security framework where collaboration, intelligence sharing, operational support and officer welfare remain essential to protecting lives, strengthening public confidence and sustaining Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s safest and most economically vibrant state.
