LSSTF Boosts Lagos Border Security with 28-Seater Bus, 60 Raincoats for Immigration as NIS Repatriates 128 Illegal Migrants in Two Weeks
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has reinforced efforts to strengthen border security and migration management in Lagos by donating a 28-seater coaster bus and 60 raincoat jackets to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Lagos State Command.
The donation, presented on Tuesday, July 14, is aimed at enhancing the operational mobility and welfare of immigration personnel as they intensify efforts to combat irregular migration and safeguard the state.
Presenting the equipment, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, praised the Nigerian Immigration Service for its dedication to securing Lagos through effective border control and migration management.
He reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting security agencies working to protect lives and property across the state.
“The Nigerian Immigration Service has remained committed to ensuring Lagos is safe. Whoever is committed to the security of Lagos will always find a dependable partner in the Lagos State Security Trust Fund,” Ogunsan said.
He assured the Command of continued support, noting that the intervention reflects the vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen security institutions across the state.
Ogunsan also appreciated the governor, the Fund’s donors, Board of Trustees, and Lagos residents for their sustained support, while commending the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, for her leadership of the Service nationwide.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Comptroller General, the Comptroller of Immigration, Lagos State Command, Christopher Olu Onajinrin, described the donation as timely and strategic.
He thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Chief of Staff, Pastor Tayo Ayinde, the LSSTF, and Dr. Ogunsan for the intervention, assuring Lagos residents that the equipment would be effectively deployed to improve border security and migration management.
Onajinrin disclosed that the Command has intensified its crackdown on irregular migration, revealing that 128 illegal migrants, including nationals of Cameroon, Chad and Burkina Faso, were repatriated within the last two weeks.
According to him, the newly donated coaster bus will significantly reduce logistics costs, improve response time, enhance personnel deployment and strengthen the Command’s capacity to carry out repatriation and other enforcement operations across Lagos State.
He noted that repatriation exercises are often logistics-intensive, making the new vehicle a major operational asset.
The latest intervention further demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s commitment, through the LSSTF, to building a stronger and more responsive security architecture by equipping agencies responsible for border security, lawful migration and the prevention of emerging security threats.
