The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched its Management Information System (MIS) File Tracker, with the pilot phase commencing at the PTML Area Command.
The initiative is part of the Service’s ongoing modernisation drive aimed at deepening the use of technology in the administration of personnel, streamlining internal processes and improving efficiency in documentation and service delivery.
Speaking at the launch, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, described the deployment as another significant milestone in the NCS’s expanding digital transformation agenda.
The CGC, who was represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT and Modernisation, DCG Oluyomi Adebakin, said the initiative was designed to deploy digital solutions that would improve operational efficiency, strengthen transparency and facilitate seamless trade.
According to him, the NCS remains committed to leveraging technology to transform its operations and enhance service delivery in line with global best practices.
DCG Adebakin, who has been associated with several landmark digital initiatives, including the Nigeria Trade Portal and the Customs Verification Management System, said the deployment of the MIS File Tracker further demonstrated the Service’s resolve to embrace innovation.
She explained that the MIS is an enterprise platform designed to support Customs administrative processes through a Single Sign-On (SSO) application, allowing a unified data set to be utilised across various administrative departments.
The platform is expected to support key administrative functions, including leave and pass applications, file tracking, duty rosters, internal staff orders, nominal rolls and other personnel-related processes.
She urged officers to fully utilise the platform and provide feedback on areas requiring modifications, additions and further improvements.
The deployment is expected to streamline internal workflows, reduce reliance on manual processes and promote data-driven decision-making across the Service.
The PTML Area Command, widely recognised as one of the most technologically advanced commands in the NCS, has continued to serve as a preferred pilot location for major Customs modernisation initiatives, including the Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), popularly known as B’Odogwu.
Speaking on the deployment, the Acting Controller of PTML Area Command, Deputy Comptroller Nura Miko, expressed confidence in the command’s ability to successfully implement the MIS File Tracker and position the command as a model for Customs innovation.
DC Miko said the command was maximising the technology-driven trade facilitation initiatives introduced by the NCS management.
While appreciating the Comptroller-General for his continued confidence in the command’s ability to deliver, the Acting Controller disclosed that efforts were ongoing to reduce the two-hour cargo clearance record for compliant Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) cargoes to just one hour.
He described the MIS File Tracker as a bold step towards sustaining the NCS’s position as a leading Customs administration in Africa.
DC Miko assured that the PTML Area Command would justify the confidence reposed in it by ensuring the successful implementation of the MIS File Tracker from the pilot stage through to full deployment and effective utilisation.
