Newly promoted Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Chief Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, has expressed excitement over her elevation from Superintendent Routes Commander to Chief Routes Commander, describing the promotion as a rewarding milestone and a call to greater service.
Speaking shortly after her promotion, Sonusi said she was “super happy” to be among the officers whose names appeared on the promotion list, noting that the achievement reflected the effort and commitment invested in her career.
She, however, said she prefers to view workplace difficulties as challenges that must be overcome rather than obstacles that should hinder performance.
According to her, the professionalism and available resources within the FRSC have enabled her to tackle several challenges, particularly in her present assignment at the ikeja Drivers Licence Centre, where she works to ensure that applicants receive the services promised to them despite operational constraints.
“Challenges are meant to be surmounted, and I’ve been able to do that,” she said.
Looking ahead, Sonusi pledged to intensify her commitment to the FRSC and contribute to its continued growth and professionalism.
She said her promotion comes with greater responsibility, stressing that she would not relent in her efforts to make Nigerian roads safer.
“It is now more work keeping FRSC soaring higher and being more professional in the discharge of my duty to the general public who have entrusted a lot of things into my hands,” she said.
The newly promoted officer also had words of encouragement for colleagues who were not successful in the latest promotion exercise, urging them not to lose hope.
She reminded them that promotion comes at different times and expressed confidence that those who missed out would have their own moment of celebration.
Sonusi equally appealed to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to take road safety seriously by obeying traffic rules and regulations.
She warned that many road crashes are preventable and urged all road users to take personal responsibility for preventing crashes.
“Crashes don’t just happen; they are always caused by somebody. Please, if you are using the road, whether you are a driver, pedestrian or cyclist, make sure that crashes don’t happen because of you,” she said.
Sonusi’s message comes as a renewed call for responsible road use, professional service and stronger commitment to the FRSC’s mandate of reducing road crashes and fatalities across the country.
