The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained 20-year-old Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video that captured him driving recklessly during a live social media broadcast, an act that culminated in a serious road crash and endangered public safety.

 

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, 14 December 2025, sparked widespread concern after the footage showed the suspect engaging in dangerous driving while livestreaming, thereby putting his own life and those of other road users at grave risk. The Police Command described the act as a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and a reckless endangerment of innocent members of the public.

 

According to the Command, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. Police authorities assured that the findings of the investigation will be made public, after which the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with extant laws.

 

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, issued a stern warning to social media influencers, content creators and the general public against using online platforms to promote or engage in reckless, dangerous or unlawful acts capable of causing loss of lives or a breach of public peace.

 

He emphasized that such lawlessness will not be tolerated, stressing that the Command will apply the full weight of the law to any offender, regardless of status or online following. The Police also urged all motorists and road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations as part of collective efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.

 

The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public peace and safety at all times.
