The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismantled a baby factory in Badagry, rescuing 28 victims and arresting two suspects in a major crackdown on human trafficking.
The operation, carried out following the directive of the Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to intensify technology-driven intelligence across commands, has begun yielding significant results in Lagos.
Addressing journalists on Friday, April 17, 2026, the State Commandant, Mr. Adedotun Keshinro, revealed that the breakthrough came after a three-week surveillance by operatives in the Badagry axis. The illegal facility was uncovered during an overnight raid between Wednesday, April 15, and Thursday, April 16, at Okuju, Ilado, Road 1, Zone 1, Olorunda area.
According to Keshinro, the suspects allegedly operated the facility by luring pregnant women through a Facebook platform, promising payments ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million in exchange for their babies after delivery.
A total of 28 victims were rescued from the scene, including 17 heavily pregnant women, one adult male, and 10 children, among them infants. Preliminary investigations also revealed that one of the victims suffered a miscarriage due to the poor and unsafe conditions within the facility.
Items recovered from the scene include a pumping machine, generator set, six standing fans, two gas cylinders, a burner, large cooking pots, five Android phones, large mats, and assorted food items.
The Commandant strongly condemned the act, describing it as inhumane and a reflection of the desperate pursuit of illicit profit by some individuals.
He added that both suspects and victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and assured the public that those responsible will face the full weight of the law.
