ZENITH BANK LEADS CLIMATE ACTION DRIVE, MOBILISES STAFF FOR TWO-PHASE CLEAN-UP IN LAGOS

In a strong demonstration of corporate commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business practices, Zenith Bank Plc has marked the 2026 World Environment Day with a two-phase clean-up exercise across key locations in Lagos State, in line with the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The first phase of the initiative took place on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, with a staff-led street clean-up along Ajose Adeogun Street. Employees of the Bank participated actively in waste collection and environmental sensitisation, engaging residents on proper waste disposal practices while reinforcing a culture of community service and environmental stewardship.

The second phase was carried out on Thursday, 4 June 2026, featuring a waterways clean-up at the Falomo Waterways. The exercise was executed in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). The joint operation focused on clearing marine debris, improving waterway hygiene, and supporting Lagos State’s broader climate resilience and environmental protection agenda.

Speaking on the initiative, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji reaffirmed the Bank’s sustainability commitment, stating that environmental protection remains central to its operations. She emphasized that both land and water clean-up efforts reflect a shared responsibility among institutions, communities, and stakeholders in safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Zenith Bank Plc reiterated its dedication to embedding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles across its operations, with continued investments in green initiatives, energy efficiency, and community-focused programmes. These efforts align with global development priorities, including SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action), as the Bank advances sustainable impact across Nigeria and its international operations in Africa, the United Kingdom, and Europe.
