Promasidor Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s dairy industry, joining the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN), development partners, and key stakeholders to mark World Milk Day 2026 in Abuja.
The high-level conference, held at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, was themed “Celebrating Women Dairy Farmers – Promoting Fresh Milk Consumption for a Healthy Nation.” It brought together policymakers, industry leaders, dairy farmers, researchers, development partners, the media, and private sector players to chart a sustainable path for Nigeria’s dairy sector, with a strong focus on empowering women in dairy production.
Dignitaries at the event included the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha; Senior Special Assistant to the President on Livestock Development, Idris Ajimobi; representatives of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment; officials of the Ministry of Livestock Development; state government representatives, including the Commissioner for Livestock and Fisheries of Niger State; Chairman of CODARAN, Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar; as well as development partners and industry stakeholders.
The Minister commended private sector participation in strengthening Nigeria’s dairy value chain, praising Promasidor and others for their continued investments in the sector. He also unveiled the National Dairy Policy Implementation Framework, designed to boost local milk production, strengthen dairy processing systems, expand cold chain infrastructure, improve milk aggregation, and enhance pasture development nationwide.
Speaking on behalf of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Managing Director Francois Gillet reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable dairy development through local production, investment, and capacity building.
He noted that women dairy farmers remain central to food security, rural livelihoods, and improved nutrition across communities, adding that their contributions must be further supported through inclusive policies and industry partnerships.
Gillet also highlighted Promasidor’s ongoing investments in Nigeria’s dairy sector, particularly its flagship operation, the Ikun Dairy Farm in Ikun-Amure, Ekiti State. The facility currently houses over 750 cattle, producing an average of 25 kilograms of milk daily and indirectly supporting more than 1,000 jobs.
“As Promasidor Nigeria, we remain committed to advancing the dairy sector through sustainable local production and continued investment. We are proud of our contribution through the Ikun Dairy Farm, which demonstrates what is possible with long-term commitment to local dairy development,” he said.
The Chief Technical Officer of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Brighton Ochieng, also participated in a high-level panel discussion where he highlighted the role of innovation and technology in transforming dairy production in Nigeria.
He emphasized the importance of modern dairy practices, improved cattle genetics, and the adoption of technology-driven solutions, including artificial intelligence, to improve productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness within the sector.
Ochieng further reaffirmed Promasidor’s commitment to continued collaboration with government agencies, development partners, and industry stakeholders to strengthen Nigeria’s dairy value chain and increase local milk production.
The World Milk Day celebration served as a platform for stakeholders to renew commitments toward expanding domestic milk production, improving national nutrition, empowering women dairy farmers, and strengthening public-private partnerships for sustainable sector growth.
