Osun 2026: IGP Disu Deploys DIG Ishyaku Mohammed to Lead Election Security Operations
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Ishyaku Mohammed, to Osun State to coordinate security operations ahead of the Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The deployment is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s comprehensive security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process across the state, the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) reports.
DIG Mohammed will coordinate the Police component of the election security arrangement and work closely with other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).
He will be supported by Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police strategically deployed across the three senatorial districts of the state. Their responsibilities include strengthening intelligence-led policing, supervising field operations and ensuring prompt responses to emerging security threats.
The Force has also put in place extensive security arrangements to protect voters, INEC personnel, election materials, polling units, collation centres, accredited observers and media practitioners before, during and after the election.
IGP Warns Against Electoral Violence
IGP Disu has warned political actors, their supporters and other intending troublemakers against acts capable of disrupting the electoral process.
He specifically cautioned against ballot snatching, voter intimidation, political thuggery and other electoral offences, stressing that offenders will be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The IGP also reiterated the ban on armed escorts, security aides and other unauthorised persons accompanying political figures or VIPs to polling units and collation centres on election day.
Similarly, state-established security outfits, quasi-security groups and private security organisations are prohibited from undertaking election-security duties, in line with established Nigeria Police Force directives.
The Nigeria Police Force has assured residents, voters and visitors in Osun State of adequate security throughout the electoral period, urging eligible citizens to exercise their civic rights peacefully and without fear.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, neutrality, respect for human rights and the protection of the integrity of the electoral process.
