The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has ordered a transparent, science-based investigation into massive power losses along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor, warning that energy theft and meter tampering must be brought to an end.
The directive followed monitoring data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), which indicated that as much as 100 megawatts (MW) of electricity remained unaccounted for along the corridor, with the losses estimated at ₦120 billion annually.
Tegbe issued the warning on Friday during a meeting with industrial operators along the corridor, where he reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to achieving a more stable and reliable electricity supply under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The minister directed relevant stakeholders to work collectively to identify the sources of the losses and establish scientifically verifiable facts around the situation.
The meeting was attended by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer and Executive Directors of NISO, representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), as well as the Managing Directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and Ikeja Electric.
Tegbe stressed that curbing electricity theft, meter tampering and other forms of energy diversion remains critical to improving power supply, protecting legitimate consumers and strengthening Nigeria’s electricity sector.
