The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its crackdown on criminal activities, arresting four suspects and recovering firearms and ammunition in a series of intelligence-led operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda.

In Mowe, operatives acting on credible information apprehended 36-year-old Opeyemi Anuoluwapo at a bus stop on April 14. A search revealed a locally made single-barrel pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag. The suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.

Three days later, on April 17, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) intercepted a motorcycle rider, Asaye Ajibola, along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. A search uncovered a locally made firearm loaded with nine cartridges. The suspect was unable to give a satisfactory explanation and was immediately taken into custody.

In a similar operation on April 18 at the same axis, another rider, Adedeji Olufemi, was arrested with a locally made double-barrel gun and eight cartridges after failing to account for the weapon.

Also on April 18, a separate incident in the Sawmill area of Osiele, Odeda Local Government, led to the arrest of a vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, following an accidental discharge of a firearm that left three persons injured. The victims were promptly treated at medical facilities and are reported to be in stable condition.

All suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations against cultism, illegal arms possession, and other violent crimes.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines, including the toll-free Gateway Shield number: 0800 000 9111.
